Wynn Stewart was one of the leading figures of West Coast land music, developing in the early '50s the pattern that would later become known for the re~on that the Bakersfield sound. Along with Tommy Collins and Buck Owens, Stewart stripped from a thin to a dense state the sound of honky tonk, alluring away the steel guitars and relying steady electric instruments, a driving beat, and turbulent, energetic performances.
